ST. MARGARET’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH

A Congregation Regenerated and Empowered for Ministry

LIVING THE VISION

FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION

HOW WE GOT HERE …….  “THE STORY”

In July, 2000, St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church began to address the structural and programmatic needs and concerns of the parish.  We are currently not ADA accessible.  We lack adequate parking, classrooms, nursery, restrooms and other facilities and programs to meet the needs of our current membership and to attract new members.

As a result, the Vestry hired a local architect to conduct an accessibility evaluation and make some recommendations).  At the September 21, 2000, Quarterly Parish Meeting, parishioners were presented with the architect’s drawings and an estimated cost breakdown of over $112,850 for a ramp and elevator to make our present church accessible.  Mr. Otto Bullard, a parishioner, stated that it would cost the parish over $112,850 for such an undertaking.  He proposed that we purchase some land and build a new church.  He then pledged $100,000 toward the construction of a new church building.  His proposal was restated in the form of a motion.  The congregation voted unanimously in favor of the motion.

In early October, 2000, the Church Growth/Long Range Planning Commission developed a survey and presented it to the congregation for their input.  The key factors in the results of the survey were as follows:

1) Find vacant land                 2)  Relocate to a developing community        3) Construct a new worship space

To this end, a new vision and concept has emerged.  The purpose of our request is to realize our vision to build a new sanctuary, a school, a clinic, and independent and assisted living facilities on one campus.  With God’s help, we intend to meet the needs of our current membership and reach out to the unchurched and others in Trotwood, Englewood, Clayton, Brookville and Dayton areas.  Living into a ‘Clear Vision of One Church” as we understand it, means putting our hope, dreams and plans into action.
